RICS has published a revised edition of the cross industry Private Rented Sector Code of Practice.

The new version has been updated to reflect the latest changes in legislation including the Deregulation Act 2015, which was passed earlier this year and improved aspects of tenancy deposit protection law.

Code of practiceWhat is the Private Rented Sector Code of Practice?

The Code was published in 2014 at the request of the Department for Communities and Local Government, led by RICS with the support of seventeen industry bodies including the Tenancy Deposit Scheme.

It was created with the aim of driving up standards in the sector, in response to the high number of privately rented properties failing to meet the English Housing Survey standards.

Covering areas ranging from how to truthfully market property, protect deposits, terminate tenancies, and repair and maintain buildings, the Code details legal requirements and best practice procedures that landlords and letting agents must and should abide by.
